Belmont County Cottage

Belmont County, OH

Belmont County Cottage sits within the landscape where Greg grew up in southeastern Ohio. The renovation draws from the materials and building traditions of the region without trying to recreate the past.

Original heart-pine floors, discovered beneath layers of linoleum, became the starting point for a palette of red oak, limewash, soapstone, and cabinetry made by local Amish craftsmen. A salvaged sink and vintage bathtub sit alongside new millwork and fixtures.

Outside, the house is painted a muted yellow drawn from the goldenrod that grows throughout the surrounding fields. The mix of old and new gives the cottage a familiarity that feels connected to its setting without becoming nostalgic.
